Architects’ Combine was established in Mumbai on 6th February 1956. Five friends from the J.J. School of Architecture, Kamu Iyer, Dileep Purohit, Shreekant Mandrekar, Raja Poredi and P.N. Mathur decided to pool their mental resources and experience to start a practice. Raphael David joined as a partner a few years later.
The firm was a confluence of different backgrounds, cultures and political views. The office grew a ‘studio culture’ in which people in a design team worked as equals, sharing ideas, discussing different
possibilities and giving shape to those ideas. The current partners at our firm, Chandroo Iyer, Pratik Sheth, Prateek Banerjee and Abhijeet Doshi continue to take forward this six-decade old ‘culture of the studio’ that never ceases to change and grow. Our firm celebrated 68 years of practice in February 2024 and we have completed over 1,100 projects of varying typologies including Educational and Institutional complexes, Healthcare facilities, Housing schemes, Industrial buildings, Office buildings, Residences and Interiors.
