Temple Trees, belonging to KR Iyer was built in 1986. The house which took over three years to complete was built by a single mason who hired help for plumbing , electrical and specialized services much like the way buildings were traditionally built before the advent of the general contractor.

This three bedroom house is on a 216 sq m site and the footprint arising out of the specified setbacks would result in a boxlike structure almost abutting the, street. To tone down the cubic rigidity of a box, we diagonally slicing the building at the entrance thereby increasing the open space in the front.

Within, the house spaces flow into one another adding to the lightness of the interior volume. Spaces are defined by brick arches which are structural elements. The upper floor containing two bedrooms recedes providing sitout spaces and helping to reduce the box effect further.
