There are two houses built for Ramesh Shah, which were 34 years apart. The first house built in 1962 was programmed for a family of four with two live-in servants. The plan is organised as a two-storeyed cube connected to a single storey outhouse by two long walls of honeycombed brick. The openings in the wall are varied to suit the load the wall had to bear. The first floor overhangs so as to shade the walls of the ground floor. The carport and verandas are accommodated under the overhangs. A study off the mid-landing of the stair, which is the level over the carport, provides complexity in the entrance space which is organised around the stair. Location and size of openings on the facade are designed to let in light at the intensity required for the particular function.

The house is oriented at an angle to the critical sunpath to reduce direct exposure on the long walls, while the veranda opens to the south-west breeze. The diagonal aspect of the building enables a two facade visibility at the entrance to the site.

The second house for his daughter Paolomi, was also on the same site, and completed in 1995.
